Phoenix cooking with Billy

Thursday, 28th August 2003

Manchester Phoenix will look to chef Billy Price to turn the heat up on their opponents this season as he signed on as the clubs sixth local recruit.

An aggressive right winger and goalscorer 24-year old Yorkshire born Billy Price, who works in a city-centre restaurant, will be hoping to grill some opposition defencemen this coming winter as the Phoenix embark on a main course of Elite League ice hockey. Another product of the junior development programme at Altrincham, Billy has also played for the Blackburn Hawks and Chelmsford Chieftains before returning to Manchester to become a vital part of last season’s successful Altrincham Aces squad.

Rick Brebant, Head Coach of the Phoenix commented, “Billy is another player who isn’t the biggest, but he more than compensates a lack of real size with sheer determination and a good work ethic - those are qualities we are looking for in all our players. Billy plays the game with a little strut in his stride and a cocky edge – I like that in a player. He has a full time job and we are grateful for the understanding of his management in allowing him some flexibility to allow him to train and play for us this season.

Billy Price remarked, “I love hockey and ever since I started playing as a ten year old, all I’ve ever wanted is a chance to improve and prove myself. Last year with the Aces was great, but this year I have a chance to play at a much higher level and I’m going for it.”

Phoenix play the first or two pre-season Challenge games against an English Premier League All-Star squad next Wednesday, Sept 3rd, at the Deeside Leisure Centre – Face Off at 8pm.
