Phoenix change of opposition

Tuesday, 9th September 2003

Manchester Phoenix have arranged new opposition for the second of their pre-season challenge games scheduled for Deeside Leisure Centre on Wednesday September 10th.

With the English Premier League All-Stars squad having suffered a number of early season injuries, the Phoenix moved quickly to arrange alternative opponents so as not to disappoint the fans.

The Phoenix are delighted to announce that in a true demonstration of co-operation within British Ice Hockey, the Findus British National League club, Hull Stingrays have agreed to play in Deeside on Wednesday.

The two teams have also agreed to a return fixture on Humberside on Wednesday September 17th with a 7.30pm face-off.

Phoenix Spokesman Andy Costigan commented, "The EPL All-Stars have lost up to seven players from the squad that met the Phoenix last week and we fully understand and accept that they would not be in an ideal position to play this week. We contacted Rick Strachan of the Stingrays and have obliged at very short notice - for which we are very grateful and appreciative"

He added, "In return, the Phoenix look forward to re-paying the favour by travelling to Humberside next week and this co-operation shows unequivocally that all parties in the sport can and will work together for the future of the game and in the best interest of all the fans. We look forward to welcoming the Stingrays on Deeside and are sure that our fans will travel across to Hull next Wednesday in droves."
