Phoenix release Billy Price

Friday, 12th September 2003

Local forward Billy Price has been released from his contract with the Manchester Phoenix by mutual agreement.

Head Coach Rick Brebant commented on the release of the former Altrincham Aces winger, “Billy has a full time job and family commitments and regrettably, these circumstances have prevented him from attending all the club meetings and training sessions.”

Brebant added, “After the early summer trials, the club put those players we’d selected for further consideration on a strength and conditioning programme to help prepare them for the level of play and physical contact they will be likely to encounter in the Elite League. This is a very necessary part of their preparation and due to his commitments, Billy has been unable to devote as much time to the programme as both he and I would have liked.”

“The Elite League will be a standard of play,” continued Brebant who himself played this week, “that these locally trained players have not yet played at and as such, they need to be able to commit 100% to the on-ice training programme and the additional gymnasium work required. This a great opportunity for these guys, but they have to be able to commit and then go on to prove themselves – unfortunately, Billy was finding the time required difficult to fulfil and so by mutual agreement he has been released. Needless to say, we wish him well and thank him for his efforts to date.”
