Phoenix team up with Planet Ice

Friday, 13th May 2005

Manchester Phoenix are delighted to announce that they have joined forces with the UK’s leading ice venue management company Planet Ice as their plans for a new 3,000 seat home in the area continue at a pace. The Phoenix still aim to have a new facility in place for the start of the 2005-6 Elite Ice Hockey League season, and see the partnership with Planet Ice as a huge step towards meeting this goal.

Mike Petrouis of Planet Ice says that “Planet Ice have been interested in putting an ice facility into Greater Manchester for many years now - we have just been looking for the right partner. We believe that this partnership with Manchester Phoenix will deliver an ice sports facility that is greatly needed in the Greater Manchester area.”

Manchester Phoenix Managing Director Neil Morris is pleased to confirm the partnership.

“This partnership brings a wealth of experience in ice sports to help us achieve our goal,” Morris reveals.  “They are the missing part of the link. Their professionalism coupled with Manchester’s enthusiasm for ice sports and a professional ice hockey team running teams at all levels provides a powerful combination, all we need is the right location. It’s no secret that we have been in discussions with councils for an appropriate site for a semi-permanent facility for some time, and these negotiations continue on a daily basis. By entering into a partnership with Planet Ice and bringing the leading ice operator in the UK to the table, we have a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise in the construction, operation and maintenance of such facilities. Our combined desire to bring this facility to reality in the shortest possible timescale remains paramount. I am certain that the demand is there for the facility, it’s just a question of getting all parties together in the right way at the right time to achieve this goal. This partnership with Planet Ice helps us to do this. We will build an ice rink for the people of Manchester.”
