Blaze next as Phoenix seek winning return

Monday, 22nd September 2003

Wednesday night sees the first ever visit of the Coventry Blaze to the MEN Arena and a first ever match-up against the newly formed Manchester Phoenix.

Phoenix head coach Rick Brebant has already made the decision not to play himself in the game, preferring to fulfil his role as head coach behind the bench. He said, "Jeff Sebastian will be fit to play and so I'm going to coach as I think I can contribute more off the ice than on in this situation. The Blaze are very well coached by Paul Thompson and so I need to go head to head with him in that respect. They have a solid roster with no real stars but good depth and this will be another good test for my players. We didn't play badly on Sunday, we just need to take more of the chances we're creating."

Brebant has spent two days searching for players to join his squad and reported on Tuesday evening that, "We got a break today in our player searching, we came across an experienced forward who has expressed interest in coming to Manchester. We have one or two checks to run in a short space of time as we would like to try and have him in for the weekend if everything pans out. It's a strange time as one minute there seems to be nobody available and then in the space of two hours, we get the names of two players sent through."
