Ticket prices and the VAT increase

Tuesday, 4th January 2011

The Manchester Phoenix organisation has decided to just suck in the VAT increase for the remainder of this season.

Neil Morris, Managing Director of the club said that, “it’s very tough at the moment  - all small business is being told to do is cut overheads and raise costs. The average family is really starting to struggle, money is expensive to borrow, food prices are rising, fuel at the pump has gone to an all time high and now more VAT on most purchases. The Phoenix organisation has decided that they will absorb the increase on all ticket sales for the rest of the season. The club can’t really afford it in this difficult trading climate but don’t want to pass any more charges on to their loyal supporters - especially mid season. We want to try and attract more people to experience our product not find ways of putting them off.”

The Phoenix are about to launch a new family ticketing initiative through their network of partners to try and attract more and more new customers to watch the Phoenix play, they believe this is not the time to be charging customers more money for whatever reason.

The organisation has been aggressively marketing their product all season through a myriad of avenues and each week the audience gets a little bit bigger.

Morris believes that they need to just keep doing more of what they have been doing for the first half of the season to be one of the surviving sports club in 2011.
