Phoenix at home twice over the holidays

Sunday, 25th December 2011

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix are at home twice during the holiday period. On Tuesday 27th December, they take on rivals the Sheffield Steeldogs, looking to avenge the 4-1 defeat the last time they played. Face off is 1800hrs at the Ice Dome.

Steeldogs are a much improved team this season and ex Phoenix favourite, Andre Payette, has them playing a brand of tough and entertaining hockey.

Janis Ozolins is one to watch out for. The little Latvian is currently the league’s top goalscorer with 26 goals from 23 games. Feisty Craig Elliot may well provide some entertainment as the young lad seems to like a bit of extra-curricular activity.

Phoenix will want to carry on from their excellent victory over Milton Keynes Lightning last week and string a couple of wins together.

On Monday 2nd January, Phoenix will entertain the Bracknell Bees in the second home game of the holidays. Face off in this game is 1830hrs.

The Bees are having an up and down season but have already amassed more points to date than they did in the whole of last season.

The Bees defence looks very shaky at times but they have one of the most potent forward lines in the league. Lukas Smital and Peter Jasik share the goalscoring duties on the first line and have 36 goals between them. Veteran Martin Masa is the provider on that line with 28 assists. Self confessed hard man Brad Watchorn provides the toughness in another team that has vastly improved on last season.

So, if you have had enough of turkey and tinsel, and need to get rid of that New Year hangover, come on down to the Dome and support Manchester’s fastest and most exciting sports team, Manchester Phoenix.
