Hockeyfest at the Dome

Wednesday, 15th February 2012

This weekend J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix will serve up a hockey treat to the faithful. They will take on league leaders Guildford Flames on Saturday night in the English Premier League Cup semi final first leg, face off 1800hrs and follow that with a tough league game against Milton Keynes Lightning.

Guildford hold a 6 point lead in the table, with Phoenix in second place, but the teams will be glad of a respite from the league battle to concentrate on the first piece of silverware on offer this season.

The Surrey team have the advantage over Manchester so far this season winning four of the five games between the sides. However, their last visit to the Dome saw Phoenix come out on top 4-1 with one of the home side’s best performances of the season.

With Curtis Huppe out injured, Guildford brought in ex player Jozef Kohut and he has certainly started with a bang, scoring seven goals and five assists in his 5 games for the club. David Longstaff is provider-in-chief on assists with 47 and Nathan Rempel is scoring at more than a goal a game. Phoenix will have to watch these three as they aim to make the cup final for the first time.

On Sunday, another home game, this time against rivals Milton Keynes Lightning. Lightning have struggled recently but are a very dangerous team and Phoenix will have to be on their guard if they are to continue their excellent series against them this season. After losing the first encounter at the start of the season, Phoenix have chalked up 4 straight wins against them and will be looking for two league points on Sunday. Face off for this game is the usual 1730hrs.

Leigh Jamieson, defender turned forward, has had an amazing season, amassing 37 goals and 27 assists so far. Blaz Emersic is not far behind him on 52 points. They are having a strange season, with one of the best defences in the league but have not been able to convert decent play into league points.

Phoenix have taken 28 points from the last 32 and are playing well. The team is up for the fight this weekend and hope the faithful will be their extra man yet again.

This is a weekend you do not want to miss. Two of the best teams in the league are visiting and they have great support. The Faithful are the best in the league and will turn out in numbers to support the lads.

Don’t forget that you can get your tickets at an amazing discount if you buy for both games. This offer will be available until Friday lunchtime from the office and on the day at the box office on Saturday for those who buy for both the games.

Spring is nearly sprung and love has been in the air this Valentine’s week. Now it is back to reality as the business end of the season beckons. Get down to the Dome this weekend for Hockeyfest and cheer on Manchester’s fastest and most exciting hockey team, Manchester Phoenix
