Weekend victory lifts Phoenix to third

Monday, 10th November 2003

The impressive 7-2 thrashing of Elite League leaders Belfast Giants on Sunday night saw the Manchester Phoenix climb to third in the table behind only the Giants and Nottingham Panthers.

Head coach Rick Brebant noted, “Results in other games over the weekend went our way, but we did our job too when we had to. I’ve said all along that I felt my team would be competitive and with five wins, one tie and only one loss in our last seven outings, I think we’re beginning to get the message home to a few people.”

Phoenix will be put to the toughest of tests over the course of the next three weeks as they hit the road for their next six Elite League encounters starting next Saturday when they travel south to take on bogey team Basingstoke Bison.

Brebant commented, “The maxim is always to win your home games and hope to pick up a few points on the road. We’ve won our last three at home, now we need to do the same on our travels. We’ll be riding the bus a lot from next Saturday and it would be an enormous boost to both our players and fantastic travelling fans if we could keep this momentum going in Basingstoke. We certainly owe ‘em something having lost both our games against them so far.”
