Phoenix front office 'on their bikes'

Tuesday, 11th November 2003

With the departure of defenceman Jeff Sebastian to EV Bruneck in Italy, the Manchester Phoenix are re-doubling their efforts on the recruiting front.

Club spokesperson Andy Costigan said, “we’ve been looking for some weeks to bring in another forward and now with Jeff leaving, we need to find another defenceman and quickly. We’ve been contacting every player agent we know and more besides. This is not a case of our fingers doing the walking through the Yellow Pages, we really are ‘on our bikes’ in an all-out effort to find two players.”

Head Coach Rick Brebant added, “we think we’ve filled the forward position, but until that signed paperwork comes back we’re continuing to look as far and wide as we have to. The defensive position could be trickier to fill, but we will not rest in our efforts. We know that at least one club is also in the hunt for a blueliner and that narrows the field a little. We remain positive about finding the right player - the right guy could come along literally at a minutes notice.”

Brebant noted, “the latest league standings showing the Phoenix in third place is certainly not doing our cause any harm, we’re getting a lot of positive contact about the job we’ve done so far through no small adversity at times.”

Elite League table as of Sunday November 9th.
