Christmas cracker at the Dome

Monday, 17th December 2012

Phoenix fans will get the chance to say “Merry Christmas” to their favourites at the Dome on Thursday when the J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix take on their bitter rivals the Sheffield Steeldogs in an EPL League match.  Face off is at the usual midweek time of 1930hrs.

The Steeldogs have been going through a torrid time recently and this dip in form brought several changes to their roster. The faithful will see a much changed line up from that which was battered 9-1 last time the Dogs visited Altrincham.

The Dogs’ hierarchy decided to change their import line up from two defencemen and two forwards to one defenceman and three forwards, hoping that this will spark a change in fortune for a team which has lost 10 of the last 11 games. Dmitri Rodin and Dimitri Zimozdra have left the club and Czech forward Lubomir Korhon has been brought in to add some fire power.

As always, Andre Payette’s team will bring their trademark physical game to the Dome and, with new boy Korhon already among the goals, a result like last time is probably unlikely.

Phoenix will be well rested after a 10 day break and hope to have netminder Stephen Fone back in the line up after Jorge El-Hage heroically stepped in for the last two games, gaining two wins, one with a shut out  and two Man of the Match awards.

Coach Tony Hand commented on the forthcoming game: "Games against Sheffield are always a battle and this week will be no exception. We have enjoyed the break and it has given those players with a few knocks some recovery time and we will be ready."

This will be another game in the Cross-Pennine match up that you will not want to miss. Get yourselves, your family and your mates down to the Dome to wish the team a Merry Christmas and cheer them on to another victory over that lot from over the hills.
