Newcastle looks for revenge in Deeside

Wednesday, 26th November 2003

The Newcastle Vipers will no doubt look to exact some revenge on the Manchester Phoenix when they venture to the Deeside Leisure Centre for an exhibition match on Saturday, November 29th at 5pm.

The match follows last week's encounter when the Phoenix escaped Newcastle with a 5-3 decision over the Findus British National League club. Five former Manchester players - Rob Wilson, David Longstaff (out with an injury), Jonathan Weaver, Paul Ferone and Rob Trumbley - will once again have a chance to play in front of Manchester fans.

As before, the Deeside venue marks the return of local sensations and former Flintshire Freeze players Dave Clancy and Marc Lovell. Phoenix head coach Rick Brebant said the match gives his younger players some much needed ice time. Brebant, a former Newcastle coach and player, has already slotted Dave Clancy as his starting netminder. "It will give Dave the chance to get some more experience between the pipes," said Brebant.

For Lovell, the hometown arena could provide a perfect setting to record his first goal of the season. "I really want to score and I've had a lot of solid opportunities recently," said Lovell. "I couldn't imagine a better place to score my first goal than at Deeside in front of all my friends and family."

Tickets for the match can be purchased in advance through Mags, our travel co-ordinator, on 077666 50564, or alternatively at the door.
