Huge game at the Dome as the Guildford Flames come calling

Thursday, 14th February 2013

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix return to the Dome on Sunday after a weekend on the road. Guildford Flames are the visitors with the usual face off at 1730hrs.

The Flames need no introduction to the Phoenix faithful. Both teams are full of quality players and the match up should be an absolute barn burner.

Phoenix have the upper hand at the moment against the Flames with 3 league victories, one league defeat and a narrow loss in the Cup. Last time out at the Dome, Phoenix played their best hockey of the season to beat their rivals 6-1.

Guildford’s forwards are free scoring with the evergreen David Longstaff topping his team’s scoring list with 81 points ( 30 goals and 51 assists). Curtis Huppe, who has won a championship with both teams, has hit the twine 38 times so far this season. Jozef Kohut has also chipped in with 43 points in the top scoring team in the league.

Phoenix are eager to bounce back after two disappointing defeats, at Guildford and Peterborough last weekend, and have been totally focussed in training this week, determined to keep the points at home. Tony Hand returns after his Olympic adventure in Latvia to marshal his troops and is confident of getting back on track.

Tony said after training on Thursday: “We have worked hard and everybody is determined to get a result this weekend. We have an extra day’s rest with no game on Saturday and we are all looking forward to another encounter with the Flames.”

There is sure to be a big crowd at the Dome on Sunday. Don’t miss this one; it will be an exciting, fast and furious 60 minutes of hockey. Be the extra player in the stand and shout loud and proud for Manchester’s fastest and most entertaining sports team, your very own Manchester Phoenix.
