Two massive games at the Dome this weekend

Friday, 1st March 2013

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix have a double treat in store for their fans this weekend with home games against the top two clubs in the league.

First up, on Saturday night, are the table-topping current champions Guildford Flames. This game will face off at 1900hrs.

Phoenix had the upper hand in fixtures against the Flames in the first half of the season. Who could forget that fantastic 6-1 victory in January? However, Guildford have shown since that they are a force to be reckoned with and have won the last three league games.  Saturday’s fixture is the semi final second leg of the EPL Challenge Cup. The first leg in Surrey was a close-fought affair with Phoenix battling hard to keep the tie alive for the second leg. They did this with a narrow 6-4 loss and the team are confident they can reach the final.

Coach Hand said: “Guildford are a great side but we know how to beat them. A two goal lead in hockey is definitely within reach. We played really well last weekend and we will take some confidence into the game. It is the first piece of silverware available this season and we want to make the final.”

On Sunday, Basingstoke Bison come to town to face Phoenix. They have had the edge on Manchester this season with victories in all five meetings so far. However, their form has dipped slightly over the last few weeks and Phoenix will want to take advantage and bring them a little closer in the fight at the top.

There is tremendous interest in this fixture and there is a distinct possibility it will be sold out come Sunday. So get your tickets in advance and make sure you come early.

Face off will be at 1730hrs.

With the season winding to a close in a few weeks, this is probably the weekend of the year for Phoenix; a cup semi final and a chance to beat their bogey team. Get down to the Dome this weekend for your hockey fix. You know you want to.
