First league weekend of the season

Thursday, 12th September 2013

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix open their 2013-14 league campaign with a trip to bogey team Telford Tigers on Saturday and have a re-match with Sheffield Steeldogs on Sunday.

Telford have strengthened their squad in the summer and have changed 3 of their 4 imports. On defence Jaroslav Kruzik has joined the D along with Michal Pavlu and they will play in front of Declan Ryan, who returns to the Tigers for another season. Up front Mika Kiviranta and Marek Mikusovic will join Scott McKenzie on the Tigers’ first line.  The Tigers always up their game against Phoenix and the visitors will have to work hard if they want to take the points back up the M6.

On Sunday, at the Dome, Phoenix will have the chance for quick revenge against Rose Bowl winners Sheffield Steeldogs and Tony Hand’s team are itching to put the record straight.

After a hard week’s practice the team are fighting fit and looking forward to putting on a performance for the home fans.

Last week’s games were not without incident and words in the press by Steeldogs’ coach Andre Payette are sure to focus Phoenix on the job in hand. Michal Psurny and Frankie Bakrlik scored two goals each over the weekend and both are looking forward to keep their scoring streak going.

Two games, 14 goals and 111 penalty minutes in the challenge games are a sure fire indication of what we can expect on Sunday at the Dome. This is a game not to miss.

1730hrs face off on Sunday... be there.
