Commercial decisions shift home match to Sheffield

Tuesday, 16th March 2004

Manchester Phoenix today announced their extraordinary decision to play their home Elite League Playoff fixture against the Sheffield Steelers in the new facility iceSheffield on Thursday, March 25th (Face-off at 7.45pm).

Neil Morris, Managing Director of the Phoenix, explained: “This has been a commercial decision that I’ve found difficult to accept and make, however the club has got to ensure its own viability in Manchester for next season.”

“The MEN Arena, our normal home venue, is the busiest arena in Europe and it’s very difficult with the vast expense and the Arena’s short turnaround time during the week to make playing out of the arena a commercially viable option.”

“Both the club and myself hope to take a large contingent of supporters over to the Pennines and tip the balance of fan power at the brand-new 1,500-seat facility at iceSheffield. I will be there with our team on March 25th and I implore our fans to stand with us as they have done all season.”
