Phoenix roster nearing completion as two more sign up

Tuesday, 19th August 2014

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix are proud to announce two more players for the 2014-15 squad.

Ben Wood has re- signed for Phoenix for the coming season. The 26 year old Macclesfield lad will start his seventh season with the club.

Ben started with the Flintshire Avalanche under 19 team in 2004 and played 3 seasons for them. He moved up to the Flintshire Freeze ENL team in 2007 before moving to Phoenix the following season. He had 2 games in 2008-09 for the Phoenix Elite League side and 22 games as a forward for the club’s ENL side.

The utility player moved up to the Phoenix English Premier League side in 2009 and has been with them since. He has clocked up 284 appearances for the team scoring 16 goals and 26 assists. Ben is a good asset for the club with his ability to play as a forward or defender. He was awarded an assistant captain slot by coach Tony Hand last season and hit 5 goals and 5 assists in an ever present season which saw him a part of the Phoenix Championship winning side.

Ben had this to say on Phoenix TV:

“It is great to be back with Phoenix. It’s been a long summer and I can’t wait for September and the start of the season.”

Coach Hand said:

“Ben has been with the club since juniors and has improved every year. He had a good season last time out and his versatility was a great asset to us with his ability to step up to the forwards when we had injuries.”

Phoenix have also secured the signature of exciting young British forward Bobby Chamberlain from Hull Stingrays.

Bobby, born in Hull 19 years ago, played for the Kingston Crunch under 16 team in 2008 and 2009 before moving to Ontario to play for the Mavericks in the Minor Midget AAA team and for their 1st Midget team later in the season. He returned to Hull the following year and iced 58 times for Hull Stingrays in the Elite League. Ogden Mustangs of the Western States Hockey league was his next stop and he had a good season scoring 15 goals and 10 assists for them. Back home once again last season and another campaign with Hull Stingrays.

Phoenix then came calling and Bobby moved west to join the Manchester outfit for the coming 2014-15 season.
Bobby has also represented Great Britain at under 18 and 20 levels for the last 3 seasons.

Bobby spoke to Phoenix TV and commented:

“I am really looking forward to coming to Manchester next season. I have heard great things about the organisation and had a good conversation with Coach Hand prior to signing. I want to win things and Manchester is the place to be. I put up some good points when over in America and Canada and am looking to do the same for Phoenix.”

Coach Tony Hand had this to say about Bobby:

“He is an exciting, ambitious young man and has Elite League experience. He will fit in well with the squad. He has a physical element to his game as well has his all round ability. I think he will quickly become a fan favourite at Phoenix.”
