Phoenix and Steeldogs get together for charity

Tuesday, 26th August 2014

The annual War of the Roses pre-season match up had some spice added to it last weekend when Neil Morris, Tony Hand, Shane Smith and Andre Payette agreed to do the ALS Ice Bucket challenge at the games on 5th and 7th September.

The challenge, which started in the United States, has taken Britain and Europe by storm with owners, players and fans of clubs all over the Continent allowing themselves to be doused with ice cold water for charity.

The owners and coaches of both clubs will go centre ice at the games and have the ice cold water poured over them after Pete Hagan, coach of the Manchester sledge hockey team, and his counterpart at Sheffield, approached Messrs Morris and Smith to put the challenge to them.

Both clubs will be selling raffle tickets for the event and lucky winners will be invited to perform the dousing at the matches. Monies collected will be divided 50/50 between their respective nominated charities and their Sledge Hockey teams who, prior to the games, will be putting on a scrimmage exhibition to highlight the sledge game.

This is definitely one not to miss as the bitter rivals’ representatives put themselves on the line for a cold shower at the games.
