Brebant seeks maximum point weekend

Manchester Phoenix head coach Rick Brebant is extolling his team to take maximum points from their two games this coming weekend in order to keep the club in striking distance of the leaders.

Phoenix host the Basingstoke Bison in the MEN Arena on Friday night before travelling to the Coventry Blaze on Sunday evening – and Brebant knows the importance of these two big games for the Phoenix.

“This is a huge weekend for us,” noted Brebant. “Basingstoke are snapping at our heels and keen to overtake us while a win on Friday could put us right on the shirt tails of Coventry as we head there on Sunday. Neither game will be easy, but both should be full of fast-flowing and exciting hockey with no quarter asked or given.”

He continued, “We’ve been away on the road for over a month and my guys can’t wait to get back to the MEN Arena, both Mika Skytta and Aaron Davies haven’t even played there yet so they are extra keen to show the home fans what they are capable of. We know Basingstoke have released a couple of players since we last played them, but they will be fired up having won in Coventry themselves last weekend.”

Looking ahead to Sunday Brebant remarked, “Coventry go to London on Friday and with the Racers still looking for their first win, the Blaze may have one or two nerves ahead of that one. If we do our stuff on Friday and London get their first win, we could really pour water on the Coventry Blaze on Sunday night.”
