Old friend ices for Phoenix this weekend

Saturday, 14th November 2015

Manchester Phoenix travel to the dark side today to take on the Sheffield Steeldogs, looking to build on last Sunday’s outstanding performance in beating the current League Champions from Telford.

Derby games against the Dogs are always tough affairs and with Greg Wood at the helm, it is likely to be ‘same old, same old’ at Ice Sheffield tonight.

Phoenix will have an old face donning the colours this weekend with Blackburn Hawks kindly giving permission to ice Richard Bentham in both games. Richard comes in to help the team as Gareth O’Flaherty sits out, having suffered a concussion in a horrendous crash into the post last Sunday.

Richard iced for Phoenix in 2012 and 2013, averaging 25 points per season and set the NIHL alight the following year with 21 goals and 28 assists for the Solway Sharks. He has returned to his home club Blackburn for this term and has 12 goals and 11 assists in 9 games so far.

Swindon Wildcats return to Deeside on Sunday with honours just about even in this season’s match up. Two pre-season games and two league games have brought 2 wins for Phoenix at home and a draw and a defeat in Wiltshire.

It is sure to be another barn burner so get your tickets and come down to Deeside to see the Phoenix. Face off on Sunday is at the usual time of 1830hrs
