Phoenix sign strong Czech forward

Friday, 1st January 2016

The Manchester Phoenix has added 6’2” Czech power forward Martin Baranek to the roster for the remainder of the season.

Coach Tony Hand moved quickly to capture Baranek as the club’s fourth import player to ensure Phoenix are able to ice three full forward lines.

Martin Baranek, 24, progressed through the Slovan Ustecti Lvi youth system and went onto represent the club at senior level in the Czech second tier.  He also iced alongside Robin Kovar during the 2011-12 season and the two players will be looking to renew their partnership in the coming weeks.

Baranek has been signed from HC Most in Czech 2, after playing for Slovan Usti nad Labem earlier in the season.

Coach Tony Hand commented: “Martin will bring some much needed energy to our forward lines; he competes hard every night and skates well.  He primarily plays on the wing but can play any situation and I’m looking forward to seeing him develop with the Phoenix.”

Phoenix return to action tomorrow night when they visit the Telford Tigers before hosting the Hull Pirates on Sunday evening with a 6:30pm face-off.
