Basic hat trick sinks Phoenix

Sunday, 25th September 2016

The Bracknell Bees came away from the Fylde Coast Ice Arena with a 7-2 win on Saturday night; a result which didn’t reflect the overall course of the game.

Following a quiet opening, Bracknell broke the deadlock when Rio Grinell-Parke tapped in unmarked at 10:02.  Exactly a minute later, Bracknell doubled their lead as a Phoenix giveaway allowed Josh Tetlow to fire into the top corner.

The second period was completely dominated by Phoenix, and the deficit was halved when Marek Indra burst through centre ice and fired under Matthew Smital at 25:17.  Phoenix registered 23 shots in the period and were unlucky not to find an equaliser as a combination of Smital and resolute defending kept the score at 2-1.  Two shorthanded goals put Bracknell back in control as Luka Basic finished one-on-one at 31:23 and then fired an unstoppable shot past Fone at 38:55.

In the final period, Basic went onto complete his hat trick at 46:14 before Scott Spearing made it 6-1 at 51:15.  Phoenix did manage to get a second goal when Luke Boothroyd found Robin Kovar in space and he lifted the puck over Smital at 51:45.  Phoenix were unlucky to add to the score as Indra was denied and Kovar hit the post, before Krystof Kafan ended the scoring at 58:15.

Phoenix are at home next Sunday evening against the Swindon Wildcats, with a 5pm face-off in Blackpool.
