The off-ice report

Monday, 26th June 2006

With the confirmation this week that Hull Stingrays will be joining the Elite League this season, the 'Rays have been quick to announce the high-profile signing of Pavel Gomenyuk from Newcastle Vipers.  The defenceman joins the league newcomers after being a part of the Play-Off winning Vipers, and will play under Coach Rick Strachan, a familiar name to some hockey fans as a result of his time with Basingstoke Bison, Nottingham Panthers and Cardiff Devils.  Gomenyuk previously iced for the Stingrays in the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons in the British National League.

Martin Cingel has put pen to paper for a fifth season with Edinburgh.  "I am very happy to be returning for my fifth year with the Capitals," says Cingel. "Edinburgh is now like a second home for me. The fans in Edinburgh are very passionate and they have been very supportive of me over the years."

Nottingham Panthers have announced the return of Blaz Emersic for a second season in the City of Lace.  Panthers Coach Mike Ellis is pleased to re-sign the Slovenian forward, saying "Blaz is another versatile player, he's big and strong and comes to work every night.  He's a competitor, I've played against him at international level and know what he brings to the table."

Nottingham have also expanded their coaching staff with the addition of former player Calle Carlsson as Head Scout and Assistant Coach.  Carlsson will also be on the player roster but as injury cover only.  "I am very pleased, it is an exciting opportunity" says Carlsson.  "I have had a long and detailed talk with Mike Ellis and alongside the management of the team, we have the same goals.  It is a challenge and I'm looking forward to it."

Basingstoke Bison are set to unveil their new Head Coach and several player signings at a fan event on Wednesday this week.
