ASDA Altrincham comes to the rescue in the nick of time

Thursday, 7th September 2006

The ASDA living store on Broadheath Retail Park in Altrincham has come to the rescue of Ice Hockey stars from around the world by providing much needed furnishings for the players' homes, worth over £1,000.

As players from the new Manchester Phoenix hockey team flooded into Altrincham and the surrounding areas, ASDA Altrincham were on hand to ensure the team enjoyed a happy house warming!  The soon-to-be completed £1million refurbishment of the store will bring and even wider selection of home furnishings and interiors, so who better to help out the players in their time of need?

The Manchester Phoenix provide housing and support to the team, during their seven-month season, who will be utilising the soon-to-be completed multi-million pound Altrincham Ice Dome.

With not much time and an army of players, wives and children flocking into the city in a matter of days, ASDA Altrincham jumped to the challenge and donated 9 houses and apartments with essential home furnishings, including bedding, kitchenwear, cleaning kits and towels with the nearby Eastlands store on hand for basic groceries and baby formula!

Richard O'Mahony, General Store Manager at ASDA Altrincham comments: "We were approached by The Phoenix and at short notice they still needed essential items that make a house a home. The Ice Hockey rink is going to be a great feature to Altrincham and bring a lot of investment into the community. We were delighted to be able to help. I'm sending some colleagues down to meet the players in their home and to make sure the families have everything they need - it's the last thing you want to worry about when you come to a strange new place. To be honest the colleagues are curious to meet the players too!"
