Thompson completes Team GB Staff

Thursday, 5th October 2006

GB Ice Hockey Head Coach Paul Thompson has completed his line-up of Senior National Team coaching staff with the appointments of Milton Keynes Player/Coach Nick Poole and Dundee Stars Head Coach Roger Hunt as associate coaches.

Thompson explained the appointments saying, “My aim was to build a network of coaches around the country so that there isn’t a player that won’t get noticed if he is playing well and deserves a call up to the National programme.”

Thompson continued, “Nick will be my eyes in the EPL where he is the most successful coach in that league right now and Roger will look after the Scottish and Irish players.  I don’t want any British player who is doing his job well to think that he isn’t being watched and his progress noted.”

He concluded by adding, “Nick and Roger will scout these teams and report back to Rob (Wilson), Tony (Hand) and myself with regular updates. Although these two guys won’t be coaching the National team they will be recommending players to us based on the same rating system that the three senior team coaches will be using.”
