Phoenix happy to play Santa

Friday, 22nd December 2006
Manchester Phoenix Managing Director Neil Morris together with five members of the team took time out from their usual midweek routine to play Santa Claus for a very special day.

Team Captain Scott Basiuk, netminder Jason Wolfe, defenceman Simon Mangos, forward Robin Gomez and bench coach Mike Kiesman visited the Manchesters' Royal Childrens Hospital on Tuesday to bring some Christmas cheer to the clubs chosen charity.

All six donned the Santa Claus red cloaks and white beards and took time to talk to some of the children as well as handing out presents donated by the clubs fanbase.

Phoenix captain Scott Basiuk said, "We're all healthy guys and to visit these kids in hospital at Christmas time is a very humbling experience. They are so brave and were so warm and welcoming to all of us, it brought a lump to our throats."

Neil Morris added, "we made the Childrens Hospital our chosen charity when we formed the club five years ago and it gave us all great pleasure to bring a smile to the faces of the children we visited. Originally, only one of us was going to dress up, but the guys were keen to get in on the act and we had a great time."
