Brebant happy with second local trials

Monday, 23rd June 2003

Manchester Phoenix Head Coach Rick Brebant expressed his pleasure at the result of the second local trials session staged by the club on Sunday in Blackburn.

“Once again, we had a very enthusiastic group of players on the ice,” he commented, “and having joined them myself, I was able to run some drills and routines that gave me an even better idea of their abilities than the first trials.”

Asked about what happens now Brebant advised, “I will talk to the local coaches and determine a shortlist of potential players to continue to work with, with a view to selecting however many I feel could right now step up, play at a higher level and perform well for the Phoenix. After that, the club will be in touch with those players to outline my ideas and plans to further their hockey development and potential future with the Phoenix.”

Brebant praised the role of the local coaches saying, “They have been a great help to me and I feel we are already building positive and long-term relationships with their organisations. I will be keeping in touch with them for the future and as previously stated, I am ready and willing to assist them as many ways as I can to help develop home grown talent.”

Brebant, ahead of leaving for Canada on a scouting trip and family visit, also confirmed that his on-going negotiations with Mike Morin are progressing well and hopes that a positive conclusion can reached within the next week. “Mike and I are having good talks and I’m very hopeful that a deal can be done. In the meantime, we have other irons in other fires as we continue early team building.”
