Classy blueliner re-signs

Wednesday, 6th June 2007

Manchester Phoenix are delighted to announce the return of classy defenceman Simon Mangos for season 2007-08.

The 27-year old blueliner enjoyed a successful debut season in the bmibaby Elite League last season notching 16 goals and 25 assists in 60 appearances while sitting out just 50 minutes of penalties.

Phoenix Director of Hockey Tony Hand commented, "Simon is a really good team guy who comes to play every night. He showed last year what a good skater he is and how he could jump up into the play to add his offensive skills to help the team. Now with our home rink, I'm sure we'll see even more from him and the other returning squad members from last season as both the training and playing schedule will be considerably better than last year."

Speaking from North America where he is spending the summer helping out in his parents’ restaurant Simon Mangos remarked, "Both Pamela and I enjoyed our time in Manchester last year and I’m excited to be coming back for a second season. The team now has its own rink and that will help us tremendously being able to train locally and on a more structured schedule than last season.”

Adding to that Mangos added, “last season was harder than you can imagine with us not training as much as we wanted to or are used to. And it was frustrating for us when we didn’t perform to the level we knew we could in some of the games. Now though, those crazy days are behind us and we can look forward to regular training and a more settled game pattern, and that will be a big deal for our team.”
