Monday, 7th November 2011

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix come up against the Sheffield Steeldogs for the second time in 5 days when they meet in an English Premier League and Cup match at The Altrincham Ice Dome on Thursday, face off 1930hrs.

The teams met in a firework display of their own on November 5 th in Sheffield and it was Phoenix who brought the points back over the hills with a nail biting 3-2 win. The Steeldogs will be coming over the Pennines to try and plunder the points on Thursday after a disappointing performance in the first two periods of that game. However, they did show their form in the third period and did not let Phoenix have things all their own way.

Sheffield are a much improved team this season and, in forward Janis Ozolins, have one of the best snipers in the league. Janis has already bagged 18 goals and 11 assists in 14 games. Another one to watch is ex Phoenix favourite Greg Wood. He is enjoying his role as captain of the Steeldogs and has racked up 6 goals and 11 assists in 14 games. Sheffield will be boosted by the return of defender Ben Morgan, who missed out on last weekend’s game due to suspension.

Coach Hand said: “Sheffield are a tough team to play against and they have had some great results against the top teams in the league. They are third in the league and are a match for any team this season. Andre Payette has done a great job over there on a limited budget and has his team working well together. We played well on Saturday but Thursday is another day and it is sure to be another hard, physical game and we will need to be at our best to secure the points.”

Face off is 19.30 on Thursday , so get yourself down to the Dome and cheer Manchester’s fastest, most exciting sports team to victory against their Yorkshire rivals.
