Time to douse the Flames

Thursday, 11th October 2012

J Davidson sponsored Manchester Phoenix take on EPL Champions Guildford Flames at the Altrincham Ice Dome on Sunday, face off 17.30hrs.

Phoenix, who ran the champions so close last term, meet their title rivals for the first time at home this season. Games against the Flames are always exciting and this weekend will be no exception.

Guildford, criticised by some for pretty much staying with last year’s championship squad, have proved their doubters wrong by winning four out of their first seven matches. The deadly first-line duo of David Longstaff and Curtis Huppe have hit 15 goals between them and top defender Branislav Kvetan chipped in with a couple before he was injured.

The match should be exciting with Phoenix’s fast improving defence hell bent on stopping the potent Guildford offence.

The two teams meet on Saturday in Guildford and both Paul Dixon and Tony Hand will be out to set down an early marker early in the season.

Coach Hand said of the weekend match up: “As always, it will be tough against the Flames. They are a top side and were worthy champions last season. It is good from a GB point of view to see David Longstaff playing so well. We are going to Guildford with confidence on the back of a winning run. The team is coming together well and we are looking to take something from Saturday’s game. On Sunday, we will be looking to keep our home run going and it should be an exciting game. The fans, as always, will play a big part in getting behind the team as we build a foundation for the season.”

So, no excuses! Get down to the Dome and support Manchester’s fastest and most exciting sports team, Manchester Phoenix.

And, just to whet your appetite even more, watch out for a couple of very special guests at the game on Sunday.
