Manchester Phoenix ended up on the wrong end of an 11-5 scoreline in Hull on Sunday night.
Hull took the lead early on through Andrej Themar at 3:12 but Phoenix responded quickly with Scott Bailey scoring his first Phoenix goal, capitalising on a mistake by the Hull netminder, at 4:46 after being set up by Lewis Baldwin. Hull restored their lead at 7:58 as Dominic Osman found the top corner and Osman soon made it 3-1 at 10:50 as he rounded Steve Fone to score.
Phoenix kept themselves in the game momentarily as Vaclav Meidl created an opportunity for Robin Kovar to score on the powerplay at 12:09. However three further Hull goals before the end of the period from Lee Haywood at 14:29, Jonathan Kirk on the powerplay at 18:26 and Lee Bonner at 18:38 put the game beyond Phoenix.
Denis Bell started the second period for Phoenix however Hull soon scored again through James Chilcot at 21:55 before Kovar got his second for Phoenix at 22:53 with a well taken goal after being set up by Edgars Bebris. Bonner then scored his second for Hull with a penalty shot at 31:58 and the period ended 9-3 thanks to an Ugnius Cizas goal at 35:46.
Hull got their tenth just twenty seconds into the final period through Nathan Salem but Phoenix responded twice as Bailey set up Bebris to score off the post at 45:57 before Bebris returned the favour for Kovar to complete his hat trick at 49:57. The final goal went to Andrew Hirst as he fired in goal number eleven at 57:41.
Phoenix are at home on Sunday evening against the Peterborough Phantoms, with a 5pm face-off in Blackpool.
